Medan - Grand Stay at Hotel Aryaduta

This is what we found on Agoda based on 879 reviews (I'm assuming later customers were not deterred by reviews from the earlier customers).

We were pleasantly surprised when, upon arrival, the receptionist (who spoke great English, by the way) offered us a free upgrade to a pool terrace room, which would normally cost double what we paid for!

While we did not spend much time in the hotel and only stayed for a night, below is my 2 cents:
  • First Impression - The hotel lobby and walkways were brightly lit and spacious with clean, comfortable chairs. Receptionists spoke good English. The offered upgrading of rooms was a bonus.
  • Service - The hotel staff offered to call us a taxi and bid us wait in plushy chairs within the comfort of the hotel. The taxi service they procured for us was from the Bluebird fleet i.e. safe and reliable service, which may or may not have been intended but I give them the benefit of doubt.
  • Breakfast Service - The breakfast area was fairly grand and well lit, as with the rest of the hotel, with views of Medan city. As it was located on a higher floor, there were no problems with flies and pests that we faced with other hotels. The breakfast spread was decent but as we had only time for a quick breakfast, we didn't get to try everything.
  • Around the Hotel - The Grand Palladium Mall will probably never be my favourite mall. However, as Hotel Aryaduta is well-located, it is but a short taxi ride to more interesting places such as Zengarden, a family spa, and Sun Plaza, an upmarket shopping centre with international brands like Mango, The Body Shop, Sushi Tei, Four Fingers and Starbucks. Given the many different eating places at Sun Plaza, we decided to snack around at each eatery.
Final verdict:

Hotel Aryaduta is a grand place to stay at, if only we had more time to lounge by the pool and sip iced teas. I don't much fancy baking myself in the sun clad in a bikini, but I wouldn't mind lounging with a good book in the shade or under the moonlight - moon bathing, I believe it is called!
